Songs Evaluation [Bravo]

Forget my biased perspective that they are indeed the best boy band who can sing, dance, act, host etc. I have come in the most objective attitude that I can maintain to write this.

1) 喝彩北京
This is the first song I have come into contact with for this album. Indisputably, being the 1st 主打, this song provides all the power and groove needed to sustain the album, be it for open performances or television broadcasting.

Using the already very famous children rhyme song of [DO Your Ears Hang Low], this song quickly captures the heart of the audiences. Furthermore, following the various repetitions of the chorus [We are young, 要站在高岗上…], even first timers will find that they are able to sing or hum along with the lyrics or melody.

I love the hand actions 56 have prepared for the song, straightforward and effortless, making it a hit with the fans and thus providing great interaction with the audience.

Of course, I am still very disappointed with the MV though, having seen the actual uncut version, it makes me wonder why in the world the company had chosen to use black and white for so many of the scenes, creating a dull and un-lively atmosphere that even the addition of children seem redundant, unable to brighten it up.

2) 漫游中国
This is a light-hearted, fast beat rendition 5566 have experimented in this album; being a slow warmer, this song is now gradually magnetizing their audiences and is becoming a hit with listeners from various websites, entering charts and forum discussions.

The approach to this song is using a very casual and easy-going tone in their singing. The lyrics successfully capture some of the essence of the Chinese culture as it revolves around a happy relationship; pointing out the various locations and attractions that China has to offer.

The hundreds and hundreds of words strung together as a rap was a rather risky attempt as only Mengzhe and Shaowei majored in raps mostly in their previous albums but I am consoled by the fact that both Renfu and Xiezhi have managed to pull it off well too!

I specially enjoyed the chorus [漫游,漫游漫游,我们慢慢的游,就要浪漫的走一走...] whereby the two leads got the major control and vocal projection of the song as it provided yet another mood to the other verses.

One thing I am ecstatic to point out is the obvious change in their dancing style! No more hard and precise movements, replacing it is a number of playful dance steps involving quite a few interactions between the group members as well as a lot of freestyles and glide movements, allowing 5566 to surprise the audiences with a new style every single time!

[P.S. If only our history or geography lessons can be conducted through such pop songs, memorizing the texts will be a whole lot easier!]

3) 不辣不辣
If you are not an avid 56 fan or if you have never watched [食神] acted by Renfu, then this song will probably be registered as a brand new song as well. As a matter of fact, this song was initially the opening title of [食神] and was originally one of the songs included in the [食神OST], however that album never made it to the day of release.

I sort of enjoyed the various clanging of pots and pans as can be heard in the background of the music at the starting and ending of the song as it provides a lively atmosphere. This song is basically of a ‘rojak’ style comprising of raps and a little melody, enabling 56 to just sing together and have fun. I can hear neither special techniques nor effects needed for this song though.

This song had been hugely suitable as the opening title of [食神] and played an important part as the drama progressed, finally ending with an exultant spirit. However, I do not quite understand the need for this song to be included in the album and it has the awkward feeling of being very out of place! But I understand that it had been the fans who had petitioned strongly for Qiaobanda to include the songs from the initial [食神OST] into this album, so I shall just zip up and recall our cute darling [史提] played by Renfu in the show.

4) 月儿光光
This song had been my second encounter with the songs in the album and I have been very pleased with this song as well! A similar tactic to 56s previous works [一光年], this song encompasses a single line of the lyrics [月儿光光] sung and pronounced in Cantonese, taken from the Cantonese hit [天涯孤客].

Again, 5566 has added in a new element in their singing, that is, making both Mengzhe and Shaowei lead vocals as well, with each of the members focusing on a certain verse or a certain few lines. To a certain extent, this is has helped the whole presence in a live singing atmosphere for Mengzhe and Shaowei a busier one, that they will not have to just stand there and hum as the back vocals while Renfu and Xiezhi take the lead. However, I feel that this had not been a very wise move!

No doubt that Mengzhe and Shaowei s vocals have indeed improved tremendously from their previous works, but making them sing as leads too in the albums 2nd主打 just seem wrong. Mengzhe owns a very thin vocal, and thus choosing him to start the song does not give it too much of a punch or a head-turner.

Also, Shaowei owns a rougher vocal as compared to the other 3, and it has proven to be a little inept to the song, especially with his part where he sings [Baby…] towards the end of the song. I received quite a shock the first time I heard it.

In a whole, I have to say that I enjoyed that last line sung in the song the most, where the melody has been pulled away and 56 sings the line [月儿光光,月儿光光].

The MV to this song gives a suitable enough feeling, and it reminds me fondly of their previous [Boyfriend] MV.

5) 我的背后
This song, being my favourite, gives me the greatest pressure while writing the evaluation. The goodness in the song is just overflowing, I am afraid I am unable to capture everything in the song s essence and also it is difficult for me to even start penning down my thoughts in words.

As indicated, this song is a gift to all 5566 fans, and it has proven to be a great tearjerker indeed. I am not trying to be overwhelming here, but it is true that I really cried as I was being swayed with 56s vocals as well as the lyrics of the song, and I am very sure many other fans felt the exact same way too.

There is no extravagant music here, replacing it is the melody strung by just a few pairs of acoustic guitars as well as the greatest instrument of all, 5566s vocals. I must really congratulate Xiezhi on his singing which has taken on an even higher level, tuning his 和声to perfection in this song. A slow and sentimental ballad, this song reminds me of those English oldies my mum loves to play at home as well as the likes of Savage Gardens.

I particularly love these two verses sung by Renfu and then Xiezhi.

They managed to bring out so much in the emotions as they sing it! The song will be a title to remember by all 5566 fans that have been through a lot with 5566. Please Warner, produce this MV with love and zest, not just fooling us around like what you did for [喝彩北京].

If 5566 can master their guitar playing, this song will be able to represent them and us even more! So train hard on your skills; I know that Renfu and Xiezhi know how to play it already, so captivate the audiences if you can string it while singing the song!

I can be right to say; only a 5566 fan will truly understand how much this song means to us, and how correct the lyrics have portrayed all our hard work and effort.

6) 小小小孩
Do not be fooled by the song title, this song is certainly no lullaby rhyme to rock a child to sleep; instead it is a power-filled rendition filled with the usage of electric guitars and drums.

The music leading up to the first verse had been a very long one, and as I was getting a little curious of the long wait, Renfu s vocals shot up just at the moment. I simply love him for his all-rounded capabilities; he managed this song flawlessly as well! The punch, the power, his proficient vocals really provided the much needed energy to liven up the song!

After the first chorus, the song producer tweaked Renfu s voice to suit this muffled and stuffy contexture. The added hoarseness in Renfu s vocals also proved to be an accurate move to provide the song with this astounding texture.

One cute move the song producer made was Mengzhe s little [recital] during [从前从前 有一颗很漂亮的星球…]. I literally burst out laughing at that part, pardon my straightforwardness, but it had been really funny. I personally enjoyed the part where Xiezhi started singing really lightly while Mengzhe read the lines out; the criss-crossing motion provided unique consistency and Xiezhi ended the verse using his powerful vocals which coordinated well as it slid into the chorus again.

I am glad to see that 5566 are doing their part in saving our environment and I love the perspective 5566 chose to sing this song in. Save the earth or our little ones will never get to enjoy the goodness of it.

7) 变色龙
I have to plainly admit that this is the song that I am most unfamiliar with for 56s Bravo, simply because the song always gets stuck every time I try listening to it.

A typical 5566 fast-paced song I should say. I am rather impressed with the fact that they managed to hire DJ FREAK from Denmark to cut this song, a really catchy tune, especially the chorus, whereby Renfu sings and towards the end of a verse Xiezhi s voice stacks successfully on it and vice versa.

I guess this is what a funky music is all about? It gives me the feeling of wanting to move along with the beat. I realize that Mengzhe really suits such songs, especially when he started the verse. One plus point, Renfu was put in charge as the lead vocal in this song! This is considered one of the few faster paced songs in this album, and Renfu sang this song with yet another touch and type of feel.

Something I cannot quite agree with is the lyrics for this song, because I do not really understand it.

8) 误会大了
Lots of fans had commented on this song even before I had heard it before, and all their feedbacks made me anticipate this song to the maximum and boy, was I treated with a great surprise!

Even though Shaowei had jokingly mentioned that he had been left with no other choice to have to sing the [duet] with Mengzhe, but their chemistry was great!

Mengzhe really suits this field and arena well I have to emphasize again, being a co-lyrics writer, Mengzhe managed to prove his talent ideally to make the lyrics a very quacky and interesting one! I guess all the training in 完娱 has not gone to waste at all.

This song feels a little like a remix, like the English pop songs you would have heard of these days, creating melody and knock out to the lyrics.

The song starts with the very famous Mozart 40th Symphony, and in the lyrics later, there was the mention of Selina. In one s first perspective, it will seem that 56 is referring closely to the girl group S.H.E, given the many similarities. This is one thing I like about the song, the play of words and music.

I would love to see an MV of this, or maybe just a Kuso edition of it; I know 5566 is very capable of it!

9) 心如刀割
This is simply a classic. Evaluating this gives me similar complexness as when I was doing [我的背后]. This song had been played just once, an incomplete version, in [食神] and it had already become the talk among all Renfu fans. Why? Simply because the song featured Renfu s pitch perfect vocals.

Following the cancellation of producing the [食神OST], this song had been just too good to go to waste that after months of petition and pleads; a new Renfu and Xiezhi duet of this song is born. Putting aside Renfu s initial solo of this song which was enough to leave me to tears, the duet version proved to be a big hit as well!

Renfu effectively managed to use this [哭腔] feel to express the swelling emotions and sentiments of the song. The agonies of seeing the one you love leave you, the pain of it all. Actually he had used this similar voice tactic before in 完娱, but this song proves that his voice is even more polished and ideal.

[我爱的人] You can listen to it and get what I mean

As usual, Xiezhi surprised me yet again with his wonderful soothing vocals stacked lightly above Renfu s at certain parts of the song. The two of them really complement each other! One thing I really loved about this song is the chorus sung during the first and third time. The same lyrics but a totally different way of bringing out the song. The first time the chorus was sung, Renfu s voice was the lead while Xiezhi s vocals floated at the back, choosing to sing only the keywords of the verse. The third time the chorus was sung, Xiezhi s vocals fitted comfortably with Renfu s, their voices just right each other, no overlapping or any sort.

10) 青鸟
There is no better song like this one to end the songs in the album. [青鸟] is a myth, and it represents happiness and being treasured. This song may be yet another dedicated to the fans and the audiences, but in our hearts 5566 is our version of [青鸟]. Seeing how much you have gone through to be where you are today; your hard work, perseverance, determination and persistence, it makes us feel both very consoled and proud!

It is no wonder that the Producer陈子鸿 mentioned that he would love working with Renfu again after their previous encounter a very long time ago. Renfu s vocal in this track is simply unbelievable, perhaps it is due to the high expectations of the producer or maybe it is because Renfu s singing just keeps improving.

This song kept me at a loss of words for quite a while, dumb folded because the two lead vocalists had brought the song out so well! A timeless piece which reminds me of those Chinese songs in the 90s, this song is kept very true to its roots and tradition. As usual, there are no flowery instruments or effects but the likes of 56s vocals.

A flawless attempt at such a type of song, I must admit that I loved the last 2 lines sung by Renfu and Xiezhi, the best way I can think of to end the song.

我们牵手写下感谢
我们牵手写下感谢

Xiezhi s slightly higher pitched tune with Renfu s straight and unwavering vocal; simply embellishing each other.

Of course, this is just my thoughts which I wish to share after listening to the songs played many times, perhaps you have other perspectives from my views as well. Feel free to drop me an email or something and we can talk about it. It is nice to know of people who love music as I do.

[P.S. XXX[this person who wants to remain anonymous], see this! Specially done up this report for you as well since you keep pestering me for it. Grins*]

Well, after this long evaluation which is soon going to squeeze dry my brain juices, I have also come up with my rankings of the songs in this album!
